LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team continued its successful opening home weekend with a 4-0 shutout of New Mexico State on Saturday the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels improved to 3-1 while the Aggies fell to 1-6.
 
UNLV quickly won two doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Ilia Snitari and Arda Karakas won 6-3 over Roko Stipetic and Tobias Walling at No. 1 while Vitaliy Horovoy and Joel Gibson teamed up on court three for a 6-2 victory over Laurendi Fischer and Matias Rojas.
 
In singles, All-American Snitari, ranked 35th, was the first off the courts with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stipetic to improve to 14-1 this season. Gibson won next, 6-3, 6-2, over Rojas at No. 5 and then Illia Maksymchuk ended things with a 7-5, 5-3 win over Holland Snell on court two.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Joel Gibson won both his singles and doubles matches, not losing even a set along the way.
 
UP NEXT: UNLV will close out its opening weekend of action by hosting Weber State on Sunday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
