LAS VEGAS - The 42nd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team opened its 1999 Spring Invitational with a 6-1 victory over unranked Utah State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.

The Rebels, who improved to 1-2, began the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. UNLV then took five of six singles matches from the Aggies, who fell to 3-2.

Winning for three-time defending champion UNLV were Asaf Tishler, Damu Bobb, Danny Erez, Gregor Skorin and Tyler Roberts.

In doubles, Tishler teamed with Skorin at the No. 1 spot, Roberts won with Erez and No. 2 and Bobb teamed with Scott Adams at the third position.

UNLV takes on Northeast Louisiana in the winners' bracket Saturday. The Indians were 6-1 winners over Weber State. Michigan State will face New Mexico in the other semifinal match.

The final is set for Sunday at noon.
