COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The UNLV women's indoor track and field team took sixth place at the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Highlighting the meet for the Rebels was senior Alicia Tyson. Tyson took first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.91, giving her the conference title. Her time also made her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championship.
Tyson moved into fifth place on the Rebel's all-time list in the 200m. She now holds the fourth and fifth fastest times in the 200m, edging out Sonji Green (23.99, 1989). She also posted a fifth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.56.
Freshman Michelle Davis posted her best time in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 54.85, taking fourth place. Davis is also the fourth fastest runner in the 400m in Rebel history, surpassing Angela Harris (55.21, 1996). Eulista Clemons turned in the team's best time of the season in the 800-meter dash. Clemons turned in a time of 2:13.09 finishing fourth. Clemons put herself in the Rebel record book recording the fourth fastest time passing Judy Fraser (2:16.60, 1996).
Jessica Marable turned in her best performance of the season in the shot put with a throw of 50'03.50. The throw was good enough for second place and a provisional qualifier. She is also second place on Rebel's all-time list passing Sheila Tarr Smith (47'03.75, 1986). Marable now holds the first and second place marks in UNLV history.
Not only did the Rebels have outstanding individual performances, they did well as team. In the eleven events it competed in, UNLV had an athlete finish in the top 10 in all but one. They also had 6 events where they finished in the top 5.
The Rebels will open their outdoor season at home on April 3, 1999, when they host the UNLV Invitational.
