Softball Loses Final Series Game at #20 New Mexico

April 25, 1999

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Despite 12 Rebel hits, including a four-for-four performance by rightfielder Nicole Miller, UNLV dropped the third game of a three-game conference series 9-5, falling to 16-28 overall and 6-15 in WAC play.

UNLV struck first with two runs in the Rebel half of the first inning aided by a pair of Lobo errors. New Mexico answered with a run in the bottom of the second when a sac fly by Brooke Chaffee scored Lainie Horne after she led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Rebels increased their lead to two in the third inning when Nicole Miller doubled in a run to make the score 3-1. Another lead off double in the bottom of the third led to a Lobo run by Krissy Keene and put the game back to a one-run game. After another RBI-single for the Rebels by Miller, the Lobos rallied to take a one-run lead with three scores in the fourth. The Lobos increased their lead with a run in the fifth but UNLV answered with one of their own in the Rebel half of the sixth. However, a three-run sixth by New Mexico sealed UNLV's fate as they fell 9-5 in the three-game sweep.

The Rebels will play their last regular season series May 7-8 as Utah visits Rebel Diamond.
