LAS VEGAS - Former Montana State University assistant Tim Drevno has been named to oversee UNLV's running backs, Rebel Head Coach Jeff Horton announced Monday.
The hiring completes the team's 1998 coaching staff after four changes in the off-season.
Drevno, who will turn 29 on March 20, replaces Tommie Robinson who held the job for only two weeks before heading to a position with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. Tom Nordquist, who left for Boise State after last season, was UNLV's previous running backs coach for four years.
"Tim's coached running backs and done a great job with them at Montana State," Horton said. "He has a reputation for being a big-time recruiter in California. He's going to recruit the Los Angeles area, which is where he is from, and help solidify our pipeline in the fertile Southern Cal area.
"I'm excited that someone of Tim's caliber and character is joining our staff and I'm looking forward to even bigger and better things from our running backs."
Before joining Montana State in 1993, Drevno was a graduate assistant at former UNLV Big West Conference-rival Cal State Fullerton in 1991-92. He earned his bachelor's degree from the school in 1992 after transferring from El Camino (Calif.) Junior College.
A starting lineman for the Titans in 1990-91, Drevno also was an all-conference guard for El Camino including playing for the school's 1987 national championship squad. Drevno is married to wife Shannon.
