LAS VEGAS - The UNLV golf team finished the 1998-99 season as the nation's second-ranked team in the final edition of the national MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings.
The Rebels, who finished sixth at the NCAA Championships June 2-5 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., won five tournaments during the season and had three players win medalist honors a total of four times this year.
UNLV finished only behind Georgia in the poll. Georgia, ranked No. 1 entering the NCAA Championships, won its first NCAA title to remain the nation's top-ranked team. Oklahoma State, which finished second at the championships, was ranked third, Arizona State was fourth, and Clemson rounded out the top five.
Individually, Luke Donald of Northwestern, who won the NCAA individual championship was the top-ranked player in the nation. UNLV's Michael Kirk finished the year ranked 12th, while Jeremy Anderson was 13th. Other Rebels ranked were Adam Scott at 39th, Chris Berry at 43rd and Charley Hoffman at 62nd.
