SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – Unaffected by the late weather delay in Wednesday's final round, UNLV men's golf went on to defeat Oregon 3-2 to secure the team victory at NB3 Match Play held at Twin Warriors Golf Club (Par 72, 6,200 yards).
Seniors
Wyatt Plattner and
Trevor Lewis combined with junior
Ryan Abuan to deliver the event-winning final three points. Plattner finished first among the trio after his decisive result (6&5) over the Ducks' Hugh Adams. Lewis then delivered his third victory (2&1) in three matches in a match vs. Aiden Krafft after converting a long-distance putt. Abuan also tallied a third point in his 3-of-3 week, sealing the team title with his decision (3&1) vs. Casper Nerpin.
Additionally, Plattner and junior
Zach Little each contributed one point apiece on opening day with their respective first and second rounds victories against New Mexico and New Mexico State. The Scarlet & Gray came away with a pair of 3-2 results in those matches vs. the Lobos and the Aggies.
QUOTABLE: "It's always exciting to win, no matter the tournament, no matter the format. We're honored to come out on top against some proud programs. Match play is a grind, and I know this stage provided a great learning experience for our guys. I'm very proud of all of them."
