LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Michael Kirk was named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Kirk led the fourth-ranked Rebels to the John A. Burns Intercollegiate title last week, which they captured for the second straight year.
Kirk never left the 60's en route to winning medalist honors and the first individual title of his career with the score of 68-66-69-203. With the title, Kirk became the third UNLV individual medalist this season as UNLV won its second tournament of the year.
Kirk's tournament total of 203 put him in a tie for the third-lowest individual tournament total in UNLV history, and his second-round six-under-par 66 was a career low.
The Johannesburg, South Africa, native has a scoring average of 72.76 in 17 rounds this year.
The Rebel golf team will be back in action on March 12-14, as it hosts the Golf Digest Collegiate Invitational at the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas.
