LAS VEGAS - The top-ranked UNLV golf team earned a spot in its tenth-straight NCAA West Regional Championship field, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
The Rebels will be the top seed at the tournament to be played at the ASU Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,037 yards) in Tempe, Ariz., on May 14-16.
UNLV was just one of nine teams from the Western Athletic Conference to qualify for a spot in one of this year's three regional fields.
The top nine teams at the West Regional qualify for the 30-squad NCAA finals to be played in Albuquerque, N.M., on May 27-30. UNLV, winner of the 1990, 1994 and 1997 West Regionals, has never finished lower than fifth in the 18-team event. At last year's tournament, the Rebels finished three shots ahead of Arizona State to capture the title.
WAC teams joining UNLV in this year's regional are New Mexico, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Texas-El Paso and Fresno State. Other WAC teams going to the post-season are Tulsa, Texas Christian and Southern Methodist, which all qualified for the Central Regional Championship.
