April 15, 1998 LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Jeremy Anderson was named the Western Athletic Conference's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Anderson led No. 1-ranked UNLV to its record-extending sixth title of the season at the BELLSOUTH Yellow Pages Intercollegiate last weekend in Cary, N.C., by capturing his second individual championship of the year.
The Lake Mary, Fla., native opened the tournament with a five-under-par 67 and cruised to the victory, shooting a second-round even-par 72 and closing out the event with a one-under 71 for a total of 210.
Anderson has recorded top-10 finishes in seven of 11 tournaments this season including five of the last six. He has a scoring average of 71.81 in 32 rounds this season and a low round of 65.
With his latest win, Anderson became the first Rebel golfer to win more than one tournament in a season since Chris Riley (3) and Edward Fryatt (2) accomplished the feat in 1993-94.
Anderson also won the WAC's Golfer of the Week award on Feb. 18 and was named the College Golf Foundation's National Golfer of the Month and WAC's Golf Athlete of the Month for November after capturing the individual title at the GolfWorld Invitational.
UNLV's next action will be April 27-29 at the WAC Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, Calif.
