LAS VEGAS - - UNLV's women's team earned its second-highest final ranking at No. 28 in the season-ending edition of the Rolex Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the ITA Thursday.
The Lady Rebels, who finished as WAC runners-up and earned a trip to the NCAA regionals, climbed two spots with an 11-12 record. In 1997 they set the school record with a No. 23 ranking.
UNLV's doubles team of Gee Gee Garvin and Susie Kocsis dropped four spots to finish at No. 20 after losing in the first round of the NCAA championship tournament. The duo (16-11) still finished as the highest-ranked doubles team in UNLV women's tennis history, besting last year's No. 25 spot earned by Garvin and former Lady Rebel Marianne Vallin.
On the men's side, UNLV climbed one spot to close at No. 46 after finishing with a 12-11 record. In singles, Rebel Asaf Tishler (22-13) dropped seven spots to complete the year at No. 48 after a first-round NCAA loss.
