LAS VEGAS - Head Softball Coach Shan McDonald announced Thursday the hiring of Jennifer Condon as assistant coach.
Condon was the second assistant under McDonald from 1994-96. She returns to the Rebel staff after taking an assistant coaching job at Northwestern for one season and then spending the last two years at Oregon State.
Says McDonald, "I'm really excited that Jenny has decided to return to UNLV. We have worked together before and I feel our coaching styles complement each other. In addition to six years of coaching experience, she has also played on the national level, which is always an asset to a team."
Condon, along with the Oregon State coaching staff, was honored as the Speedline Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year last season after leading the Beavers to their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament and setting a school record in wins with an overall record of 47-25.
An All-American outfielder at Iowa State from 1987-90, Condon was twice an Academic All-American as well. She is still the school's all-time leader with 216 hits, 24 triples, 120 runs scored and a .351 career batting average.
Her success on the field continued after her collegiate career. She was a member of the U.S. National Team, helping the United States to a World Championship in 1994 and a gold medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Argentina. She also was named an ASA All-American after helping the California Commotion win its third consecutive national championship in August 1998.
"Jenny's playing experience came in the outfield but she is also very adept at coaching infielders and brings exceptional offensive knowlege. In addition to her duties on the field, she will be involved in recruiting and fundraising and play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of Rebel softball."
