LAS VEGAS - UNLV head athletic trainer Kyle Wilson reported that an X-ray taken of Rebel sophomore quarterback Jason Thomas Sunday revealed no fracture in Thomas' right foot.
Thomas, who ranks first in the nation in passing efficiency and stands fourth in the Mountain West Conference in rushing, left Saturday's game at Colorado State in the second quarter and did not return after spraining his foot.
Senior Jason Vaughan, who started eight games last season, came off the bench in relief and completed 8 of 11 pass attempts for 57 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown to Nate Turner with less than a minute remaining. The Rams, however, blocked the subsequent extra point and won the game 20-19.
Thomas will continue to use crutches for at least 24 hours and is listed as doubtful for this weekend's homecoming game vs. Wyoming.
The preseason MWC Newcomer of the Year is playing his first year of college football after transferring from Southern California in 1999 to join former Trojan coach John Robinson in Las Vegas.
Thomas, a left-hander, has helped UNLV get out to a 3-3 record by throwing for 955 yards, eight touchdowns and only two interceptions while rushing for 65 yards per game.
