Box Score?|? Notes

New Mexico Head Coach Rocky Long

On the last drive drive:

"UNLV made plays and we didn't. It is as easy as that."

On the lack of passing by UNLV in the second half:

"I think they were playing it close to the basket, hoping we wouldn't score any points. They were going to make sure they didn't make any mistakes, because they made so many in first half otherwise, they would have scored 50."

UNLV HEAD COACH JOHN ROBINSON -

On the game:

"This was a great win. A tough win. I think they coached this game really well, and my congratulations to Rocky Long. The thing they do so well is adjust on defense. They got us with a lot of blitzes."

"This team (UNLV) has the ability to never give up. We could have got up earlier in the game if not for the turnovers in the first half, but they came back and played hard in the second half."

On QB Jason Thomas:

"There are those mystiques that get built up about quarterbacks. I don't know where it comes from, but Jason Thomas has it. When it gets down to the end of the game he really gets into it and shows real patience."

On Thomas' lingering foot sprain:

"He was probably only running a 5.0-40 with his injury to his foot. The bye week is really important, we have two weeks now to get the foot healthy."

On WR Nate Turner:

"Nate had some really aggressive plays that helped keep us alive toward the end of the game."

UNLV QUARTERBACK JASON THOMAS -

On the last drive:

"We were just trying to get first downs. The last play was big, it was almost an interception. Who else would make the play but Nate Turner."

UNLV WR NATE TURNER -

On the final touchdown pass:

"JT put the ball where nobody else could get it but me. It was a great play call by John Robinson on the sideline. I knew Jason was going to throw the ball up. I told him to throw it high and I'd go get it. That's exactly what happened."
