LAS VEGAS - Sophomore Constance Jinks came off the bench and topped the scoring column with 18 points to lead UNLV to a 74-57 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first round of the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Shootout at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday.
UNLV (2-0) combined solid defense with an impressive performance from its bench to advance to the championship game of its home tournament where it will face Charlotte, a 71-68 winner over St. John's in the first game of the day.
The Lady Rebels held UAPB (0-2) to just 34.5-percent shooting from the field and just eight second-half field goals in the win.
Jinks went 10-of-13 from the free throw line and had five assists to go with her 18 points. Freshman Petra Gl?ser scored 17 points despite sitting on the bench during the final 10 minutes of the game, and senior Viveca L?f pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds.
Whitney Stewart and Tennall Burrows led the Golden Lions with eight points apiece.
Second round play in the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Shootout will begin on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. as part of a basketball tripleheader at the Thomas & Mack Center. UAPB will square off against St. John's in the consolation matchup, followed by the Lady Rebels and Charlotte at 5:00 p.m. UNLV's men's basketball team will then face Cal State Northridge at 7:35 p.m.

Charlotte's Alicia Abernathy hit two free throws with :04 left to seal a 71-68 victory over St. John's in the opening game of the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Shootout.
The 49ers (1-2) went up by as many as eight with just over a minute left to play, but Tynisha Myles converted a three-point play and Rasheedah Brown nailed back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Red Storm (1-2) to within one.
Charlotte's Tonya Phifer scored a game-high 32 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Abernathy's two free throws capped an 11-for-11 night at the line. She scored 17 with eight rebounds. St. John's was led by Myles' 15 points, including a 9-of-9 effort at the line.
