EVANSTON, Ill. - Constance Jinks scored a career high 33 points, including 23 in the second half to lead UNLV to a 84-74 win over Northwestern University in the championship game of the Roger L. White Invitational at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday.
UNLV (5-0) held the Wildcats (3-2) to just one field goal over the final 10 minutes of the game to erase an eight-point deficit. Jinks then took over offensively, scoring 19 points over that span on a series of layups, jumpers and free throws.
Jinks, a native of Chicago, also handed out seven assists and pulled down four rebounds to earn the tournament's most valuable player honors. It was the second straight week in which she captured MVP kudos and also the second straight week in which the Lady Rebels won a tourney crown.
Linda Fr?hlich claimed all-tournament honors. After leading UNLV to a victory over Northeastern in the first round with 18 points, she chipped in with another 15 on Saturday, including 3-of-3 three-point shooting.
Erin Johansson and Petra Gl?ser both scored in double figures with 16 and 11 respectively. Johansson went 4-of-7 from three-point range, including a pair of clutch long-distance bombs to spark the UNLV second-half run.
The 5-0 start by UNLV is the team's best since 1990-91 when the Lady Rebels reeled off 14 straight to start the season.
They will test that 5-0 record on Wednesday, Dec. 6, when they continue their four-game road swing in Tucson, Ariz., for a non-conference matchup at Arizona.
