COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV freshman track and field standout Chantel Yates (Chattanooga, TN/Brainerd HS) has been named the Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Yates captures the award after stellar performances at the Rebels' first competition of the year, the Air Force Invitational. In her collegiate debut, Yates finished third overall and first among conference foes in the pentathlon, registering a score of 3,322. Her mark is tops in the conference this season.

She also posted a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.2) and a 12th-place showing in the long jump (17-2). Both of those marks rank among the league's top 10.

The Rebels will be in action again this Saturday as they head to Reno, NV, to compete in the Wolf Pack Invitational.
