LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team is set to host the 2000 UNLV Classic beginning Friday at Sunset Park.

The tournament will consist of 16 teams, each competing in five pre-determined games throughout the weekend. Four USA Today/NFCA preseason top 25 teams will compete in this weekend's competition.

The Rebels will face Cal Poly-SLO, Oregon St., Central Michigan, Nebraska, and Cal-Berkeley during the three-day tournament. UNLV defeated #13 Nebraska in last weekend's Fiesta Bowl Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona and will square off again on Saturday at 3:00 pm.

Last year, UNLV went 3-2 in the Classic with wins over Utah St. (12-0), Cal-Berkeley (6-2), and Florida International (6-4). The losses came at the hands of Oregon (12-5) and Loyola Marymount (9-0).

The Rebels will compete in a pre-tournament match-up against the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday at the Rebel Diamond Softball Field beginning at 12 noon.
