LAS VEGAS
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels, 23-7 overall and finished with a 10-4 record in the Mountain West Conference, will face No. 14 (by AP) Tulsa, 29-4, in the NCAA South Regional on Friday, March 17, at the Nashville Arena. Time is TBA. UNLV recorded its third 20-win season over the last four seasons under coach Bill Bayno. The 23 wins is the most since the 1991-92 season when UNLV was 26-2. The Runnin' Rebels have won a season-high seven straight games. It marks the second time in the last three seasons that UNLV has won a conference tournament championship (1998 WAC and 2000 MWC) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

All Runnin' Rebel games will be carried live on ESPN 920 AM. Ken Korach and Glen Gondrezick will call the action all season long. Rebel Radio Pregame on Friday is TBA with Tony Cordasco, Ruben Herrera and Derek Roy. The pregame show with Ken and Gondo is TBA. INJURY REPORT
Athletic Trainer Dave Tomchek reports that junior guard Kenny Dye had a sprained right shoulder, which occurred in the Princeton game on Dec. 3. Dye has missed the last 25 games and is a redshirt candidate. Sophomore guard/forward Lou Kelly has a broken right foot (fracture of the fifth metatarsal) and will be out of action indefinitely.

The 14th-ranked Golden Hurricane are 29-4 overall and finished with a 12-2 record in the WAC.

He is in his third season at Tulsa and his record is 71-26 (.732) and career record over six seasons is 127-79 (.617).

SERIES HISTORY
UNLV leads the series against Tulsa 5-1 (Home: 2-1, Away: 3-0). UNLV won both meetings against Tulsa in the 1998-99 season when the Runnin' Rebels were a member of the WAC. UNLV won 73-55 on Jan. 16, 1999, in Las Vegas, and won 54-53 on Feb. 15, 1999, in Tulsa.

MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SUMMARY
UNLV won three games in three days to capture the inaugural MWC Tournament on March 9-11, at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV, the No. 1 seed, defeated San Diego State 77-72 in the opening game on March 9. UNLV led by four points at the half at 35-31. UNLV jumped out to an 11-point lead to take control of the game at 61-50 (4:30). Junior center Kaspars Kambala led UNLV with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Senior point guard Mark Dickel added 16 and 9 assists.UNLV then faced Wyoming in the semifinals on March 10. A run and gun game throughout, the Cobwoys led by nine points at 44-35 (4:09). UNLV went on a 14-4 run and led 49-48 at halftime. In the second half, Wyoming led for most of the half. The Cowboys took a 80-71 lead with 8:20 to play. UNLV rallied again and led 85-84 with 4:39 to play. UNLV, trailing 88-87, took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by junior guard Trevor Diggs (90-88 at 2:54). UNLV then led 95-92 and Wyoming had a chance to tie and forward Bradley Mann's 3-pointer missed. Senior center Issiah Epps was fouled with 8 seconds to play and sank two key free throws to help give UNLV a 97-92 victory. Freshman forward Dalron Johnson scored a career-high 23 points and Dickel dished out a career-high 18 assists. UNLV then squared off against BYU for the championship game on March 11. BYU had defeated UNLV twice during the regular season by a total of three points (77-75, 83-82). UNLV came out and played smothering defense and jumped out to an incredible 26-2 lead at the 11:54 mark. UNLV later led 35-9 at the 4:02 mark. BYU scored its first basket at the 19:19 mark and didn't score another basket until the 6:24 mark. UNLV led 43-16 at halftime. The second half was more of the same. UNLV went on a 15-4 run and enjoyed its biggest lead of the game of 38 points at 58-20 (15:08). All five UNLV starters scored in double figures and scored all but two of UNLV's 79 points. Diggs scored 20, Johnson 18, Kambala 15, junior forward Danny Brotherson had 14 and Dickel 10. UNLV defeated BYU 79-56 and captured the inaugural MWC Tournament. Dickel was named the tournament MVP and Johnson and Kambala were named to the all-tournament team.

UNLV IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Runnin' Rebels will be making their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance and the second in the last three seasons. UNLV faced Princeton in the NCAA East Regionals in Hartford, Conn., on March 12, 1998, and lost 69-57. The Runnin' Rebels have an all-time record of 30-12 (.714) in the Big Dance, which ranks third all-time for the highest NCAA Tournament winning percentage. UNLV has made four Final Four appearances (1976-77, 1986-87, 1989-90, 1990-91). UNLV was the 1990 National Champions with a 103-73 victory over Duke on April 2, 1990.

RUNNIN' REBEL HEAD COACH BILL BAYNO
**2000 Mountain West Conference Co-Coach of the Year** - He is in his fifth season as the head coach of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. He is UNLV's 10th head coach in the 42-year history of Rebel basketball. He has a career record of 91-59 (.607) at the helm of Runnin' Rebel basketball. He recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons (42-23 record over that stretch) in '96-97 and '97-98 and 23 wins (which is the most victories in a season during his tenure) in 1999-2000 for three 20-win seasons over a four-year span. The Runnin' Rebels are the 2000 Mountain West Conference Co-Champions and Tournament Champions. He has guided UNLV to postseason play for four straight seasons (NIT in '96-97, NCAA in '97-98, NIT in '98-99, NCAA in '99-2000). He has also recorded four straight .500 or better seasons (1996-2000). In 1998-99, UNLV compiled an overall record of 16-13 and were the WAC Mountain Division Co-Champions. UNLV compiled an overall record of 22-10 in 1996-97 in Bayno's second season. UNLV more than doubled its win total from 1995-96 (10-16 record). In 1997-98, UNLV compiled an overall record of 20-13. The Runnin' Rebels had a remarkable run winning four games in five days in the WAC Tournament. UNLV posted victories over Hawai'i, Utah, Fresno State and New Mexico to capture the WAC Tournament championship and receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. UNLV reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1990-91 season. UNLV faced eighth-ranked Princeton in the NCAA East Regionals in Hartford, Conn. Bayno served seven years as the associate head coach at the University of Massachusetts under John Calipari (former head coach of the NBA's New Jersey Nets). Other coaching experience includes: 1987-88: Assistant Coach, Baptist College (Charleston, SC), 1986-87: Graduate Assistant Coach, University of Kansas, 1985-86: Graduate Assistant Coach, Seton Hall University. 3-POINT GOALS
Since the 3-point field goal was adopted by the NCAA in 1986-87, UNLV has converted at least one 3-pointer in all 448 games played (counting 30 games this season). The Big West Conference experimented with the 3-point shot in the 1982-83, 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. During that period, UNLV connected from 3-point range in 53 of 64 games. The UNLV streak for games in which it sank at least one 3-point shot stands at 461. The last time the Runnin' Rebels failed to make at least one 3-pointer came against Long Beach State on Jan. 25, 1986. NOTE: The other school with a consecutive 3-point streak over 400 is Vanderbilt with 437 (as of March 1).

UNLV has a 69-21 (.767) record under head coach Bill Bayno at the Thomas & Mack Center, including a 18-2 record this season. The 18-2 record is the best winning percentage since the 1991-92 season (14-0, 1.000).

ANOTHER 20-WIN SEASON
UNLV has notched its third 20-win season under coach Bill Bayno over the last four seasons. It also marks the 27th 20-win season in the 42 years of UNLV basketball. The 23 victories is the most under the five-year tenure of Bayno and the most since the 1991-92 squad was 26-2.

A GREAT START AND FINISH
UNLV began the 1999-2000 season 5-0 which was the best start in Bill Bayno's five seasons as head coach. UNLV was 4-0 to begin the 1996-97 season in Bayno's second season. UNLV has compiled a season-high seven game winning streak from Feb. 22 - March 11, which ties the longest streak under Bayno (won seven straight in the 1996-97 season).

30-GAME RECORD
The 23-7 record in 1999-2000 is the best mark under Bill Bayno in his five seasons as head coach after 30 games. The 1996-97 team was 21-9 after 30 games en route to an overall record of 22-10 and a NIT third round appearance.

THIRD STRAIGHT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
In one way, shape or form, UNLV has captured its third straight conference championship with its 80-67 victory over New Mexico on March 4 in the regular season finale. UNLV won the 1998 WAC Tournament Championship and the 1999 WAC Mountain Division Regular Season Co-Champs. UNLV captured the 2000 Mountain West Conference Regular-Season Championship (with Utah) and the MWC Tournament Championship with victories over San Diego State, Wyoming and BYU.

ANOTHER .500 PLUS SEASON
With 23 wins, UNLV is guaranteed an over .500 season for the fourth straight year under head coach Bill Bayno. UNLV has now recorded a .500 or better season in 39 of 42 seasons of basketball in school history.

VICTORY OVER RANKED OPPONENT
UNLV defeated then-No. 19 Utah 72-66 on Feb. 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The last ranked opponent UNLV defeated prior to that was on Jan. 23, 1999, at TCU when the Runnin' Rebels posted a 95-88 overtime victory over the 21st-ranked Horned Frogs.

THREE STRAIGHT ROAD WINS
UNLV won its first three MWC road games over Air Force (Jan. 15), New Mexico (Jan. 17), Colorado State (Jan. 29). It marked the first time a UNLV team captured three straight road wins since the 1991-92 season. The Runnin' Rebels won their last 10 road games, which included nonconference opponents, en route to an overall 26-2 record.

ROAD RECORD
UNLV finished the regular season with a 5-5 record (which included a 1-1 record on a neutral court at the Charlotte Food Lion MVP Classic).

UNLV AND WYOMING COMBINE FOR 207 POINTS
Wyoming defeated UNLV 109-98 on Jan. 31 in Laramie for a combined 207 points. The 1992-93 season was the last time UNLV and itsopponent combined for more points. UNLV defeated UC Irvine 115-97 on Dec. 19, 1992, at the Thomas & Mack Center for a combined 212 points.

UNLV RANKS SEVENTH IN THE NATION IN OFFENSE
UNLV ranks SEVENTH in the nation in scoring (82.5, as of March 9). The top five: Duke (89.5), TCU (88.6), Siena (86.9), Florida (85.2), Fresno State (82.9).

UNLV has shot 50 percent or better from the field in 8 of 30 games...UNLV is 8-0 in those games.

OUT REBOUNDING THE OPPONENT
UNLV is 19-2 in games it has outrebounded its opponent and 4-5 when they have been outrebounded (vs. N.C., OSU, Cincinnati, BYU, at Utah,...High Point W 72-53, Utah W 72-66, Florida Atlantic W 81-60, Wyoming in MWC Tourney W 97-92). UNLV lost at Wyoming 109-98 on Jan. 31 and outrebounded the Cowboys 44-41 and lost at BYU 83-82 on Feb. 19 and held a 33-32 advantage on the glass. CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
Junior center Kaspars Kambala has captured the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week award three times this season, the most by any player in the league. Mark Dickel and Trevor Diggs each recorded double digit assist games against Cal Poly on Dec. 21. Diggs had a season-high 11 and Dickel 10. The team recorded a season-high 33. The last time two UNLV players recorded 10 or more assists in a game was on Nov. 28, 1980. Guards Greg Goorjian and Michael Burns each dished out 10 assists. UNLV defeated Pan American 78-62 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

TWO PLAYERS WITH 20 OR MORE POINTS
UNLV has placed two players with 20 or more points in a game four times this season: Trevor Diggs scored 28 points and Dalron Johnson added 22 against Air Force on Jan. 15, Kaspars Kambala scored 29 points and Trevor Diggs 21 against Wyoming on Feb. 12, Kaspars Kambala scored 27 points and Trevor Diggs 21 against BYU on Feb. 19, Dalron Johnson scored 23 points and Trevor Diggs 20 against Wyoming in the MWC Tourney on March 10.

The UNLV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in conjunction with PacifiCare, sponsored the Runnin' Rebel All-Millennium Team. **2000 Second-Team All-Mountain West** **MVP - MWC TOURNAMENT** Has appeared in 30 games and is averaging 13.4 points and 9.1 assists, 274 total, which is a single-season career-high, (75 turnovers), which leads the Mountain West Conference and LEADS THE NATION. His 401 total points this season is a career-high. Shooting .451 (121-for-268) from the field, .378 (51-for-135) from 3-point range and .788 (108-for-137) from the line. Has made at least one 3-point field goal in 25 games and is tied for the team lead with 53 steals (career-high). All five stat categories (ppg, apg, FG%, 3PFG%, FT%) represent single season career highs. He was named the first-ever Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 22. He recorded his first career triple-double in the season opener against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 19. He scored 17 points (5-for-9 FG, 6-for-6 FT), recorded a career-high 10 rebounds and dished out 12 assists in 32 minutes. LOU KELLY
He made his UNLV debut against Air Force on Jan. 15. He scored 4 points (1-for-9 FG, 2-for-4 FT) and pulled down 3 rebounds in 18 minutes. He played in 5 minutes against New Mexico on Jan. 17 and did not play in the second half due to an injured right foot. He fractured the fifth metatarsal and is out of action indefinitely.
