Runnin' Rebels At Utah State Tuesday Night

UNLV heads to Logan, Utah, having won two straight games and five of its last seven; 8 p.m. PT game to be televised nationally on FS1.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Winner of two straight games and five of its last seven, the UNLV men's basketball team will play its second straight road game on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Utah State. The 9 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT game will be televised nationally on FS1.

The Runnin' Rebels (9-8, 4-2) are coming off wins against Boise State (89-85 in overtime) at home last Tuesday and at San Jose State (76-62) on Saturday to improve their Mountain West record to 4-2. The win over the Broncos also marked UNLV's fifth straight home win.

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, who scored a career-high 33 points against Boise State, also tallying a career-high-tying six assists, averaged 21.5 points per game last week and was named the Mountain West's Player of the Week on Monday morning. The 33 points marked the highest individual scoring total in a game by a UNLV player since EJ Harkless had 35 points in the 2023 Mountain West Tournament.

The Runnin' Rebels are averaging 78.9 points per game and have five players averaging double figures in scoring: Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (16.8 ppg, 5th in MW), Kimani Hamilton (12.5 ppg), Tyrin Jones (10.7 ppg), Issac Williamson (10.5 ppg), and Howie Fleming Jr. (10.0 ppg). Jacob Bannarbie leads the team in rebounds at 6.3 rpg (6th in MW), while Fleming Jr. lead the team in assists at 3.3 apg. Gibbs-Lawhorn is the team's steals leader at 1.5 spg (6th in MW), while Jones leads in blocks at 2.2 bpg (1st in MW, 23rd nationally).

The Runnin' Rebels are in their first year under head coach Josh Pastner. Although new to UNLV, he is in his 15th year as a collegiate head coach, having previously led Memphis and Georgia Tech for seven seasons each. He holds a career record of 285-195 (.594).

UNLV's roster has only one returning player, Jacob Bannarbie, and has welcomed 13 new faces. The newcomers include eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen.

MORE ABOUT THE ROSTER: This season's UNLV squad, which has had to deal with a rash of injuries, returned just one player from 2024-25: redshirt sophomore forward Jacob Bannarbie. The 2025-26 roster added 13 newcomers - eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen. The team features four seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen, with a position breakdown of seven guards, six forwards, and a center. Last season, Bannarbie appeared in 19 games (three starts), averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 6.6 minutes, and shooting 52.9% from the field on 17 attempts.

ABOUT UTAH STATE STATE: The Aggies (15-2, 6-1) are coming off an 84-74 road loss to Grand Canyon on Saturday. That snapped Utah State's eight-game win streak. The Aggies are led in scoring by MJ Collins with 19.6 ppg (1st in MW), while Mason Falslev is right behind at 16.7 ppg (6th in MW). The team is led in rebounding by Nana Owusu-Anane (8.9 rpg, 2nd in MW), while Drake Allen is the assists leader (5.0 apg, 1st in MW). Falslev leads in steals (2.5 spg, 1st in MW) and Owusu is the blocks leader (0.8 bpg, 8th in MW). The Aggies rank ninth in the country in field goal percentage at 51.6% and 13th in scoring margin (17.6). Utah State is 7-0 at home this season. USU was picked to finish second in the Mountain West's preseason poll, with Falslev named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-MW team. Utah State's 15-man roster is made up of nine upperclassmen. The Aggies went 26-8 overall last season, finishing third in the Mountain West at 15-5. They lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to UCLA. Head coach Jerrod Calhoun is in his second season at the school with a record of 41-10 (.804), and is in his 14th year overall as a collegiate head coach with a career mark of 283-153 (.649).
