Women's Tennis Shuts Out Idaho State

LAS VEGAS - The 68th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team kicked off a nine-match homestand by not losing a set en route to a 9-0 whitewash of unranked Idaho State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Thursday.

The Lady Rebels improved to 6-4 and remained perfect at home at 4-0.

At the No. 1 spot, 20th-ranked Katarina Malec breezed by Denise Fernandez, 6-2, 6-0, to improve to 21-5 on the season in singles.

Also winning were Veronica Goude, Marianne Bakken, Urska Radanovic, Michaela Gabl and Amy Hadziosmanovic.

UNLV also swept doubles play with 44th-ranked Malec and Bakken pairing up for an 8-1 win at the No. 1 position. The teams of Gabl and Hadziosmanovic and Goude and Radanovic also won.

The Lady Rebels host Illinois State at 10 a.m. Saturday.
