LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's
Veronika Kliuch will play in Sunday's top-flight final of the annual Jolene Watanabe Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Kliuch rallied on Saturday to advance with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Jessica MacCallum from Cal Poly in Flight A.
In Flight B, Rebel Eszter Kis-Czacko defeated Sarah MacCallum, also of Cal Poly, 6-3, 7-5.
In Flight C, Rebel
Sofiia Sokolvak downed Anushree Shekhera also of the Mustangs.
The hosts also posted a pair of wins in doubles play. Kliuch and
Hudson Hawkins won 6-0 and
Kaho Oyama and Adi Botton prevailed by the same score.
Action gets underway Sunday at 9 a.m. PT. Admission is free of charge.
The annual fall invitational was renamed to honor former UNLV great Jolene Watanabe, who put the UNLV women's tennis program on the map three decades ago and passed away in 2019 after a battle with cancer at the age of 50.
