LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebel softball team will host two MWC doubleheaders this weekend beginning Friday, April 14 against Colorado St. (11-20) and Sunday, April 16 against New Mexico (27-12). Each twin bill is scheduled to begin at 12 noon at the Rebel Softball Diamond.
UNLV, who sits 1-5 in league play, will be aiming to reach the .500 mark this weekend. The Rebels have an overall record of 15-27 and currently are in a four-game drought.
Racheal Goodpaster, Nicole Miller, Geney Orris, and Charelle Ainslie lead the Rebels in offensive power, each batting .300 or better on the season. Ainslie, the teams starting first baseman, suffered a shoulder injury on March 29 and should be back in the lineup in time for this weekend's match-ups.
Colorado State is led by Holly Schmillen, hitting .424 and is the team's starting shortstop. The Rams are 3-3 in league play and are 4th in the Mountain West Conference standings. Colorado St. leads the series 7-10 and swept the Rebels last season in a three-game series (3-2, 8-7, 7-4).
The Lobos sit atop the Mountain West with a 5-1 league record. New Mexico boasts seven players hitting .300 or better on the year and the pitching staff of Danielle Cassara (17-3) and Kathy Moore (10-7) has a combined ERA of 2.15. UNLV leads the series 9-5, but were also swept by the Lobos in three games last year (9-1, 8-3, 9-5).
