PROVO, Utah - The UNLV track and field team won five events Saturday to overtake Wyoming in the team standings and finish second at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

BYU won the team title with 236 points, followed by UNLV with 129 and Wyoming with 121.5.

Leading the Rebels on the day was sophomore sprinter Michele Davis, who swept the 200 and 400-meter titles. She clocked a season best 23.21 in the 200 and won the 400 in 53.09, marking her second straight league win in the outdoor 400. Davis also captured the 400 at the MWC Indoor Championships last February.

Senior Ayanna Hutchinson won the 100 meters in 11.69 and followed Davis in the 200, finishing second in 23.54. Both Davis and Hutchinson will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held in Durham, N.C., from May 31-June 3.

UNLV's other two victories on the day came in the relay events. Davis and Hutchinson teamed with Chantel Yates and Erin Dangerfield to win the 4X100 relay in 44.92, just .06 seconds slow of the NCAA provisional qualifying time. The Rebels also won the 4X400 relay with a mark of 3:40.00.

Jenni Nelson and Katie Barto, who each scored in Friday's 10,000 meters, finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 5,000 meters on Saturday to earn all-conference honors in both events.

Also scoring from the distance crew were seniors Stephanie Davidson and Kathryn Goetz. Davidson finished sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:46.75), and Goetz trimmed three seconds off her time in the 800 to finish sixth (2:13.49), also.

Tianika Sharrieff broke her own UNLV freshman record in the high jump, clearing 5-8.75 and claiming third place. As a freshman, her mark ranks third on the UNLV all-time high jump list.

Tiffany Smith and Belisa Suarez both scored in the triple jump with marks of 38-1.5 and 37-3.75, respectively, and senior Jessica Marable captured a fourth-place finish in the discus (155-9).

It is the third straight second-place conference finish for UNLV, which finished second to BYU at last year's WAC Outdoor Championships and at this year's MWC Indoor Championships. It also concludes the season for all of the team except the five NCAA provisional qualifiers. Davis, Hutchinson, Marable, Nelson and Yates will await an announcement of the qualifying field from the NCAA.
