RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field opened its 2025-26 indoor campaign with a strong showing at the Silver State Invitational & Combined Events this weekend at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
The Rebels set the tone early on Friday in the weight throw, where Amaya Mitchell-Howard dominated the field with a winning toss of 18.74m (61' 5.75"), marking a new personal best. Teammates Lauryn Williams (13.87m - 45' 6¼") and Sophia Clark (13.72m - 45' 0.75) added depth with 12th- and 13th-place finishes, respectively.
In the long jump, Gabby Goodgames led the Rebels at 11th with a leap of 5.50m (18' 0.5"), while Juliana Roberson placed 27th.
UNLV packed the podium in the 300m, taking three of the top four spots. Kaitlynn Webbe finished runner-up in 38.90, followed closely by Kaelin Gowdy in 39.53. Jada Go Forth rounded out the group in fourth at 42.32.
The mile run featured another strong Rebel trio, highlighted by a personal-best performance from Claire Rands, who placed fifth in 5:21.14. Taryn Bailey (5:21.23) was right behind her in sixth, and Angelina Vasquez (5:30.20) claimed eighth. In the high jump, Jada Lujan cleared 1.52m (4' 11¾") to tie for 15th.
The sprint squad added three top-15 finishes in the 200m, led by Aly Winston in sixth with a time of 24.34. Jayda Bushay (10th - (24.56) and Mikah Scott (15th - (24.73) also scored strong marks.
The day closed with the 5000m, where Alana Sangprasit clocked 19:38.50, and Aine McDade followed in 20:35.39.
The Rebels returned Saturday beginning with the 60m hurdles prelims, as Jaci Wright advanced to the final after placing sixth in 8.67. Wright capitalized on her qualifying mark later in the final, taking fourth with a time of 8.50.
UNLV made noise in the shot put, where Lauryn Williams delivered a personal best of 12.76m (41' 10.5"), winning her heat and placing sixth overall. In the 60m prelims, Mikah Scott advanced after posting 7.48, the second-fastest time in her heat. She matched that mark again in the final, finishing third overall.
Lujan returned to the track in the 600m, finishing in 1:52.47. UNLV's mid-distance crew capped the individual races with the 4000m DMR, as Rands, Jada Go Forth, Bailey and Vasquez combined for a time of 12:38.92.
The Rebels closed the meet with a highlight in the 4x400m relay, where the team of Bushay, Winston, Webbe and Kaelin Gowdy won Heat Two in 3:48.27.
