LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team will have a total of six student-athletes competing in a combined three events at the NCAA West Preliminaries at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field. The Rebels will open the second day of competition on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT with the 100m hurdles, while the 100m will take place an hour later.
Jaci Wright will get things started in the 100m hurdles for the Scarlet & Gray. The redshirt freshman is tied for 29th in the West Region and tied for 69th in the nation with a time of 13.31 seconds. KayVeonna Jackson will run in the 100m, where her time of 11.40 is tied for 48th in the West Region.
Roxene Simpson will open the final day of competition in the discus throw at 11 a.m. PT where her season-best mark of 53.26m (174' 9") held at the MW Outdoor Championships sits 30th in the West Region and 63rd in the nation.Â
Jackson, along with AnnaKay Maitland, Aly Winston and either Kaitlynn Webbe or Gabby Goodgames, will represent the Scarlet & Gray Saturday in the 4x100m relay, and Jayda Bushay will take to the track Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. PT.
The four-day meet, May 27-30, will serve as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Each individual event will have 48 participants, while the relays will consist of 24 teams, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
