Seqoiya Burress Named UNLV Track & Field Jumps Coach

Former Sacramento State athlete and Elite Youth/High School coach brings premier technical expertise and proven championship record to the Rebels.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Track & Field has named Seqoiya Burress as the Rebels' new Assistant Coach for Jumps. Burress, a former collegiate jumper and a highly respected coach with nearly a decade of documented athlete development, brings extensive technical expertise, a proven track record of championship-level success and deep roots in the Las Vegas track and field community to the program.

Burress comes to UNLV with an outstanding coaching resume across elite club, high school and private coaching sectors. She most recently served as Assistant Coach for Long Jump, Triple Jump and Hurdles at Legacy High School in North Las Vegas, where she directed all technical development for a Nevada 5A program. During her tenure at Legacy, she guided athletes to back-to-back Nevada 5A state triple jump titles and contributed to a 5A state championship in the 4x200m relay.

Additionally, Burress served as Assistant Head Coach for the Las Vegas Heat Track Club and Head Coach of the Nevada Gazelles Youth Track Club, designing periodized training cycles, approach mechanics and jump-phase progressions for athletes ranging from youth competitors to national qualifiers.

Over her nearly ten years of coaching experience, Burress has mentored and developed a two-time Nevada 5A state triple jump champion and two-time USATF Junior Olympic national champion in the triple jump and ranked among the top-20 high school triple jumpers nationally. Burress also coached a top-10 finisher at the USATF Indoor National Championships with a 7.35m national qualifying mark in the long jump. Furthermore, she has coached numerous USATF Junior Olympic All-Americans and multiple top-5 national finishers in horizontal jumps. More than 20 of her athletes placed into collegiate track and field programs, including five NCAA Division I signees at programs such as UCLA, Syracuse and Cal State Long Beach.

A former collegiate track and field athlete in the long jump, triple jump, short sprints, and relays at California State University, Sacramento, Burress competed prep track at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California. She is a certified track and field official with both USATF and the Southern Nevada Officials Association (SNOA), having officiated the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships. She also holds certifications from USATF, NFHS, SafeSport, and CPR/AED.
