LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will compete in the UNR Invitational Friday, January 16 through Saturday, January 17 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
This will be the Rebels second consecutive meet participating in a UNR-hosted meet, as the squad posted 11 top-eight finishes, including win in the weight throw and runner-up finish in the 300m, at the season-opening Silver State Invitational & Combined Events last month.
The Scarlet & Gray will be represented by 20 student-athletes in a total of 13 events – eight track and five field – that begins on Friday with the weight throw at 10 a.m., and concludes with the 1000m at 2:45 p.m. On Saturday, action gets underway with the high jump at 10 a.m. and wraps up with the 4x400m Relay at 2:45 p.m.
Amaya Mitchell-Howard returns to Reno after winning the weight throw at the Silver State Invitational & Combined Events with a personal-best toss of 18.74m (61' 5.75") and 60m hurdles. Additionally, Kaitlynn Webbe ran her way into a runner-up finish in the 300m with a time of 38.90. Meanwhile, Mikah Scott claimed third in the 60m with a time of 7.48 after qualifying for the finals with a second-place showing, also in 7.48 seconds.
Some Rebels seeing their first action of the season will be Gabriella Caldwell (400m), Krishna Jayasankar (shot put), Roxene Simpson (shot put), Bella Oakes (400m) and Kayli Middleton (long jump/triple jump).
