Davis Advances To Semis At NCAA Track Championships

DURHAM, N.C. - UNLV sophomore sprinter Michele Davis finished second in her heat and advanced to the semifinals in the 200 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium on Wednesday.

Davis clocked 23.53 to finish second in her heat and post the tenth fastest time of the field. The top two athletes in each heat plus the next eight fastest times advance to the semifinals, which will be at 8:55 EDT on Friday, June 2.

"Michele ran a very competitive, strong race," head coach Karen Dennis said. "For her to finish second in her heat against the top 20 runners in the country is impressive. It's a big improvement over last year and we're very happy for her."

Davis is one of three Rebels competing at the NCAA Championships. She will run in the semifinals of the 400 meters tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. EDT followed by teammate Ayanna Hutchinson in the 100-meter prelims at 7:35 p.m.
