BERKELEY, Calif. - UNLV sophomore sprinter Michele Davis (Lansing, Mich.) was named the California-Nevada State Championships Athlete of the Year by the meet's coaches, it was announced Wednesday.
The two-time All-American swept the 200 and 400 meters at the 2000 Cal-Nevada Championships, hosted by California University on Apr. 28-29. She broke her own meet record in the 400 with a time of 52.98, eclipsing the mark of 53.61 that she set as a freshman in 1999. She also clocked a 23.54 in her 200-meter victory.
Davis is a hopeful for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and will compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif. from July 14-23.
