SAN DIEGO - Linda Fr?hlich and Kinesha Davis both achieved impressive career milestones as they led the UNLV women's basketball team to its biggest victory of the season, 82-41, over San Diego State at Cox Arena on Saturday.
With her fourth point of the game early in the first half, Fr?hlich topped the 1,500-point mark in scoring for her career. It was the second time she had tallied a significant milestone at the Cox Arena, registering her 1,000th point there in last season's game. She finished with 21 in the game to lead all scorers and added 10 rebounds.
Later in the half it was Davis achieving her milestone, putting back an offensive rebound for an easy layup and notching her 1,000th career point. Davis scored 10 on the night and pulled down eight boards.
The Rebels (13-4, 3-2) gave up the tip and the first bucket of the game, but answered immediately with an 18-2 run and never looked back. Petra Gl?ser sparked the run, using her height advantage inside for eight points early. She was one of four Rebels in double figures, finishing with 13 points.
A stingy Rebel defense did not permit the Aztecs (10-8, 2-3) to climb into double figures until the six-minute mark of the first half. However, SDSU found its groove late in the half and reeled off 12 points late to close the Rebel lead to 39-22 at half time.
UNLV went on another run in the second half. After an initial Aztec free throw, the Rebels rolled off 27 straight points to take a 66-23 lead and seal the win.
Despite the big win, UNLV swallowed some bad news as senior co-captain Brooke Ingalls left the arena on a stretcher after falling to the floor and hitting her head on the wood. No determination has been made regarding her status for next week's games.
With the win, the Rebels move to 9-0 on Saturdays this season. They forced a season-high 34 turnovers, and the 41-point win was the largest by UNLV since Regina Miller took over the program while SDSU's 41 points scored was the lowest total by a Rebel opponent this year.
The Lady Rebels return to the Thomas & Mack Center next week for a pair of Mountain West Conference games. They host Colorado State (14-4, 3-2) on Thursday, Feb. 1 before entertaining Wyoming on Saturday, Feb. 3. All tickets to Saturday's game are just $2 as part of UNLV's "Pack the Mack 2" promotion.
