LAS VEGAS - The 55th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team was swept in singles play and lost to 10th-ranked Pepperdine 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.
The Lady Rebels shocked the Waves by winning the doubles point to start the day. Agnieszka Abram and Amy Hadziosmanovic won at the second spot and Urska Radanovic and Britta Gabl won at No. 3 to earn their team one point.
Pepperdine, however, dominated in the bottom half of the lineup and rallied in two matches to sweep singles play.
Lady Rebel Pauline Janus was two games from sweeping her match at the top spot but instead lost 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 to 32nd-ranked Ipek Senoglu. At the second position, 39th-ranked Abram also blew a big first-set lead and lost 7-6, 7-5 to 33rd-ranked Paola Palencia. UNLV (0-2) is next in action on Feb. 2 when it hosts Weber State.
