STORYLINE: The No. 14 UNLV men's golf team continues the fall portion of the 2001-02 season this weekend at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The three-day event, hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club (Par 72--6,906 Yards), begins on Friday, Oct. 5 with 18 holes to be played each day through Sunday, Oct. 7.

ABOUT UNLV: Despite a young team, the Rebels began the season with a strong effort, logging a fourth-place finish at the season opener, the Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshman Ryan Moore was stunning in his debut, firing rounds of 72, 72 and 71 to claim ninth place individually. No Rebel finished worse than 37th in the 104-player field.

THE FIELD: The Carpet Capital is a new addition to the Rebels' slate this year and features 11 schools ranked in the GCAA Coaches Poll top 25. The field consists of: Auburn, Augusta State, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, UNLV, Virginia, Wake Forest.

THE LINEUP: UNLV's lineup for the Carpet Capital Collegiate will be senior Clark Corbett, juniors Brett Foulds and Calvin Kupeyan, and freshmen Ryan Moore and J.C. Deacon.

SCHEDULE FIX: In the wake of the tragedy of Sept. 11, UNLV has been forced to make a slight change in its schedule. The Rebels had originally planned to play in the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C., Nov. 9-11. However, the tournament has been cancelled, and UNLV will instead add the Taylor Made Intercollegiate in Hilo, Hawaii, from Feb. 15-17. The Rebels had already planned to play in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Honolulu Feb. 20-22, and will just enjoy an extended stay in Hawaii.

HEAD COACH DWAINE KNIGHT: UNLV men's golf head coach Dwaine Knight is in his 15th season as the Rebels' skipper. During his tenure, UNLV has been a perennial top-25 squad, won five league championships, advanced to the NCAA Championships 12 times, and captured the 1998 national title. The only coach in the country to twice claim GCAA National Coach of the Year honors in the 1990s (1991 and 1998), Knight has produced 15 All-Americans and sent three players to the PGA Tour (Jeremy Anderson, Ed Fryatt, Chris Riley).

UP NEXT: Following the Carpet Capital, the Rebels play in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, hosted by Alabama in Birmingham, Ala., on Oct. 15-16.
