Women's Soccer Pounds Wolf Pack in First Meeting

Oct. 2, 2001

LAS VEGAS - A second half scoring spurt gave the UNLV women's soccer team a 2-0 shutout of intrastate rival Nevada in both team's first ever meeting Tuesday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.

Both teams played each other even in the first half, but could not find the net. The Rebels came back in the second period and outshot the Wolf Pack 17-9 for the night.

Senior Robyn Krivacic scored the eventual game-winner in the 57th minute off a free kick just outside the left side of the penalty box from junior Cristyn Enea. Senior Anita Pedford added an unassisted goal at the 61:46 minute mark by dribbling past the UNR defense in-front of the net to help UNLV to its third consecutive shutout.

Freshman Desiree Kelly, a goalkeeper from Virginia Beach, Va., claimed her second win between the posts and earned her second shutout of the season. She had six saves on Nevada's nine shots for the game. UNLV raises its overall record to 5-3-2, while UNR drops to 0-9.

Both traditional Silver State rival schools had not played before tonight's match with UNR in only its second season and UNLV in its fourth.

The Rebels are on the road for their next match, after enduring three games in the last five days. They will next test Northern Arizona on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. in Flagstaff, Ariz.
