LARAMIE, Wyo. - Joe Haro ran for 226 yards and scored two touchdowns as UNLV beat Wyoming 47-26 on Saturday.

It was the first time since 1995 that a player for UNLV (3-5, 2-2 Mountain West) rushed for more than 200 yards. The victory kept alive the Rebels' hope, however small, of a winning season and a bowl bid.

The Cowboys (2-6, 0-5) saw their quarterback, Casey Bramlet, fall victim to five sacks. Also, their nearly 2-year-old league losing streak grew to 13 games.

In all, the Rebels outrushed Wyoming 439 yards to 72. Quarterback Jason Thomas added 97 yards rushing and Jabari Johnson ran for 85 yards.

The Cowboys dominated the passing game, totaling 382 yards to UNLV's 129. Bramlet was 33-of-60 including a touchdown, Thomas finished 7-of-15 for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Bramlet was intercepted once and Thomas twice.

The final scoring drive of the game was UNLV's most effective one. In the fourth quarter, Troy Mason capped an eight-play, 80-yard push with a 6-yard reception.

The score became 40-26 when Bramlet sneaked in a 1-yard touchdown 2 minutes into the fourth quarter.

Wyoming scored early in the second half on a 46-yard field goal by Jarvis Wallum. But UNLV kept the lead well out of reach, 40-19, after Haro scored on a 65-yard breakaway run.

The Cowboys began showing life late in the first half. Ryan McGuffey scored on an 18-yard pass from Bramlet. A couple minutes later, Bramlet lunged in from a yard out to put Wyoming back in the game, 33-16.

Haro put the Rebels up 33-3 on a 1-yard TD, ending a four-play drive that began after Bramlet fumbled on the Wyoming 22.

The game began with UNLV breaking its first-quarter scoring record by tallying 27 points against a mere field goal for Wyoming. The record had stood since 1978.

Late in the first quarter, Kevin Thomas intercepted and returned 58 yards to score. That was preceded by an 8-yard TD run by Johnson.

Wyoming's first points came on a 35-yard field goal by Wallum midway through the first quarter. DeJhown Mandley gave UNLV the early lead with scoring receptions from 29 and 6 yards.
