SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - In the last 10 minutes of regulation, the UNLV men's soccer team came through with its biggest comeback of the season defeating UC Riverside, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the San Bernardino Blast Soccer Complex in San Bernardino, Calif.
Down two goals in the second period, junior forward Kelly Frederick ignited the last minute heroics for the Rebels after sliding in the ball off a corner attempt headed by the Highlanders at the 80:28 minute mark. Two minutes later, Frederick would find freshman Brendon Bain for the tying goal at 82:45.
With one and a half minutes left to go, Frederick flipped a pass to senior Jason Melendez, who put the game-winning goal past the keeper for the come-from-behind victory.
Frederick, a junior college transfer from Antigua, had a four point day against the Highlanders to put him third on the team in scoring with 10 points. For Bain, his goal in the 82nd minute was his first in his college career.
Junior goalkeeper Justin Dennis earned his fourth win of the season as the Rebels lifted their record to 5-4, while UC Riverside fell to 0-8-1.
UNLV will open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference play on Friday, Oct. 12, hosting San Jose State at 7:30 p.m.
