LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV men's soccer senior defender
Manolo Vazquez and sophomore forward
Maxim Scordo were named the respective Mountain West Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday. This marks Scordo's third honor and Vazquez's first MW weekly recognition.
The duo helped the Rebels to a 2-0 week that included a 2-1 home victory over San José State and a 5-1 road win at Air Force.
Originally from Alcalá de Guadaíra, Spain, Vazquez captained the Rebel backline that allowed only eight shots on goal across the two matches. In a 5-1 victory over the Falcons, he led a defensive unit that only allowed eight total shot attempts to go along with an assist on the offensive side. The captain also played the full 90 minutes in the victory over SJSU.
A native of Newport Beach, California, Scordo tallied six points behind a three-goal week. He scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over the Spartans via his 59th-minute penalty kick. The striker then went on to notch a first-half brace against the Falcons, recording goals in the seventh minute and 44th minute.
