LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — The UNLV men's soccer team (8-3-2, 4-1 MW) made it four straight wins after blanking UC Davis (1-8-4, 1-3-1 MW), 1-0, to remain unbeaten at home on Wednesday's Kick Cancer Night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Sophomore forward Maxim Scordo delivered the Rebels' game-winning goal in the 12th minute on the assist from senior midfielder Kai Merrill and senior forward Nick Legendre. Defensively, the Scarlet & Gray backline withstood the Aggies' attacking pressure for its second consecutive shutout.

Merill started the play for the game's lone goal as he poked the ball away toward Legendre, who then pushed the ball out in front of Scordo for his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Legendre jumped to the team lead in assists with his fourth helper on the year.

STAT OF THE GAME: In its fourth clean sheet overall this season, UNLV protected its turf with stout defending that limited UC Davis' scoring chances. During the full 90 minutes, the Rebels held their opponent to only two shots on goal. It was the second straight outing in which an opposing attack finished with two shots on goal or less against the Scarlet & Gray.

Paired with stingy defense, the Rebels won the offensive battles in total shots, 15-7, and shots on goal, 7-2. That matched UNLV's highest shots-on-goal output during Mountain West play, with Scordo leading the way by posting five targets and senior defender Mikah Madrid offering two other direct opportunities at net.

This is the first time the Rebels have gone undefeated through their first five home matches since the 2002 season. They extended their record in front of the home crowd to 4-0-1.

QUOTABLE: "'I'm just really proud of the team. They came together against a very difficult team to go up 1-0 early. We wanted to get a couple more, and had some good looks. And then the game changed a little bit, as they were trying to chase us. I thought the players that came off the bench did a great job. At the end, we were back in control of the game the way we needed to be. I'm really proud that the guys got it done at home, to do it in front of this fan base, the school and city. These guys love this town, playing for Las Vegas and UNLV.

"We played for something bigger tonight also, with Kick Cancer Night. There's a lot of people impacted by that in different ways, and I'm proud of this group for making sure they're playing for something bigger than themselves. That has kind of been our m.o. for the season right now."
-UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig

UP NEXT: UNLV will search for more success when they play at San José State on Sunday, Oct. 18.

UNLV's attack has now scored goals in nine consecutive contests
