UNLV Hosts Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championships

Nov. 1, 2001

LAS VEGAS - UNLV will play host to the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championships on Nov. 7-10 at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.

This is the second consecutive year for UNLV to stage the event. All seven conference teams will qualify for the postseason league tournament with a single elimination format. The conference's top seed will receive a bye, while the other remaining league teams will commence first day action and vie for advancement on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

This week, the MWC regular season title and seeding for next week's conference championship are up for grabs, as teams enter the final week of regular season competition. Brigham Young currently sits atop the league with a 4-1 record and will host second-place Utah (3-2) on Saturday, Nov. 3, for a shot at the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the MWC tournament.

UNLV (3-2) is currently tied for second with Utah in the league standings and can claim a share of the regular season crown with a win over San Diego State on Saturday, Nov. 3 and a BYU loss to Utah. The MWC women's soccer tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the expanded field of 64 for this year's NCAA Women's College Cup.

Ticket prices for the MWC Women's Soccer Championships are $7 for adults and $4 for seniors, students and children for single sessions. An All-Tournament Package is available at $15 for adults and $8 for seniors, students and children. Please contact the UNLV ticket office at 702-895-UNLV for more information on tickets.
