WOODLAND, Calif. - Three members of the UNLV men's soccer team were named to the 2001 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Conference Team as announced by the league office Tuesday.

For the third consecutive year, senior forward Jason Melendez (Lakewood, Calif.) was named to the All-MPSF First Team. Melendez ended his Rebel career with 29 goals and 22 assists for 80 points, which ranks sixth all-time in school history. He is only the second UNLV men's soccer player to lead the Rebels in scoring for four straight seasons (1998-2001), since two-time All-American Robbie Ryerson accomplished the same feat from 1982-85.

Senior defender Andrew Hooker (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) was honored for a second time on the All-MPSF First Team. A CoSIDA Academic All-American and three-time UNLV Athletics Academic Top 30 member, Hooker completed his Rebel career having not missed a game the entire way, playing and starting in 72 consecutive contests.

Sophomore midfielder Alex Hernandez (Indio, Calif.) earned All-MPSF Second Team honors and had a great second year for the Rebels in 2001. Hernandez was named MPSF Brine Player of the Week on Sept. 24, after recording his first career hat trick in a 6-1 upset of defending national champion Connecticut. He finished tied for second on the team in scoring with eight goals for 16 points this season.

Additional Notes: Senior defender Kevin Lunkwitz (Las Vegas) was named to the 2001 MPSF Brine All-Tournament Team, with the Rebels going 0-1-1 in conference postseason tournament play in Fresno, Calif. Lunkwitz completed the final penalty kick in UNLV's game-ending 4-1 shootout (3-3 tie) victory over San Diego State, which advanced the Rebels to the MPSF Semifinals.
