LAS VEGAS - Despite a second-half comeback that pulled UNLV within two points of the lead, Colorado State was able to hold off the Lady Rebels for a 69-62 victory at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday.
The Rebels (13-5, 3-3), down 41-29 at the half and by as many as 16 in the game, went on a 13-2 run early in the second half to pull within four points, 46-42. UNLV used another 6-0 run midway through the half to close the gap to 52-50 before the Rams (15-4, 4-2) answered with a spurt of their own. Both teams battled down the stretch, and UNLV got as close as three points with 24 seconds remaining. However, CSU hit four free throws in the final seconds to seal their victory.
CSU moves into second place in the Mountain West Conference standings with the win while the Lady Rebels fall to fourth.
UNLV was led on the night by Kinesha Davis, who scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and produced three timely steals in one of her best performances of the season. But the Lady Rebels were held to just 40 percent shooting on the night, and only Constance Jinks and Petra Gl?ser joined Davis in double figures with 12 points apiece. Linda Fr?hlich was held under 10 points for the first time this season, tallying nine points and 13 rebounds.
Heather Haanen led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting for the Rams. Angie Gorton chipped in, scoring 16 on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.
UNLV looks to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 3, when it hosts MWC foe Wyoming at 7:35 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. As part of the game's "Pack the Mack 2" promotion, all tickets for the game are only $2 and for each ticket sold, UNLV will donate $1 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas.
