CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 73rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss to 15th-ranked South Alabama in the semifinals of the HEB Tennis Classic Saturday.
The Rebels fell to 5-3 overall while the Jaguars improved to 12-2.
UNLV, which had advanced by winning two Friday matches over higher-ranked teams (Oklahoma State and Louisiana-Lafayette), began the day by losing a furious battle in doubles. USA won all three matches, including two that ended in 9-8 tiebreakers, for one team point.
In singles play, the Jaguars won three of four completed matches to seal the victory as Gregor Skorin, at the fifth position, was the only Rebel to win a match.
UNLV will play in Sunday's third-place match vs. the loser of Saturday's other semifinal between Middle Tennessee and Oklahoma City.
