Track Opens Outdoor Season At Home

Storyline: The UNLV track and field team opens its 2001 outdoor season on Friday, March 16 with a home meet against Texas and Idaho at Myron Partirdge Track and Sheila Tarr Smith Field. Finals in the hammer throw, the long jump and the shot put will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. All other events are scheduled for Saturday. Field events begin at 10:00 a.m. and running events get underway at 11:00 a.m.

UNLV: UNLV opens its outdoor season looking to defend or improve upon its second-place finish at last year's MWC Championships. Most recently, the Rebels finished third at the MWC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24. Junior sprinter Michele Davis was their lone representative in the postseason, competing in the 200 meters at the NCAA Championships. She finished 13th overall.

Results: Results will be available following each day's competition, faxed to each participating school and posted on the world wide web at www.unlvrebels.com.

Up Next: Following its home opener, UNLV heads to Palo Alto, Calif., for the competitive Stanford Invitational on March 31 and April 1.
