It's No Joke: UNLV Women Lose 4-3 Again

April 1, 2001

LAS VEGAS - The 60th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost 4-3 for the second time in as many days and for the fourth time in its last five defeats - all to ranked opponents - this time to No. 66 San Diego State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.

The defending Mountain West Conference champion Lady Rebels fell to 5-10 overall and 3-9 at home and 1-2 in the league while the Aztecs improved to 8-7 and 2-1 in the MWC.

SDSU began the day by winning two of three doubles matches for one team point.

In singles play, UNLV got wins from its top two players and at No. 6. Winning for the Lady Rebels were Paulina Janus in three sets over Silvia Tornier, Agnieszka Abram in straight sets over Whitney Wells and Amy Hadziosmanovic in straight sets over Julie Chidley.

SDSU, however, easily won all three matches in the middle of the lineup to split singles and earn the overall victory.

UNLV continues its conference schedule by traveling to Colorado State Saturday.
