LAS VEGAS - Fans can get an early preview of this fall's UNLV football team at Kick Off 2001 presented by Findlay Toyota, which is set for Saturday, April 7, weather permitting.
Scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to noon at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park on campus, the third annual free event offers a unique way to meet the team and coaching staff. The players are scheduled to hold their first and only scrimmage of spring practice while Head Coach John Robinson will once again host the affair via a wireless microphone.
In addition to Findlay Toyota, the event is sponsored by Lotus Broadcasting and the UNLV Rebel Football Foundation.
Kick Off 2001 will also feature the school's band and mascot, Hey Reb, as well as areas for kids that include bounce houses, an athletic training table for taping and the opportunity to take photos wearing the Rebels' official uniform and helmet.
This year's event will once again begin with a free Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 12 and under, with those 3 and younger having a special separate area. Getting underway at 9:30 a.m., the hunt will begin in front of Earl E. Wilson Baseball Stadium. Parking also is free.
The first 250 fans attending Kick Off 2001 will receive a disposable camera to capture the day's events on film courtesy of Findlay Toyota. Fans will also enjoy free Pepsi products and complimentary Popsicles courtesy of Anderson Dairy. Also available will be free team mini-posters that can be used for player autographs. In addition, the first 200 new fans that purchase their season tickets for as low as $50 at the event will receive an official Kick Off 2001 T-shirt.
Following the scrimmage, everyone is invited to a barbecue at the field. Catered by Big Dog's Hospitality Group, the cost is $5.
"With the team coming off an undefeated home season and big bowl victory, this is the best opportunity for all of Las Vegas to get a look at the third edition of the Rebels under John Robinson," UNLV Associate Athletics Director Terry Cottle said. "It will be a great atmosphere for sports fans and entire families at Rebel Park."
