LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team earned national recognition this week, checking in at 13th in the preseason edition of the Golf World Men's College Coaches Poll.

Despite the loss of All-American Scott Lander and James Oh, the 2001 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, the Rebels picked up 206 points in the poll, earning their 12th consecutive appearance in the preseason Top 25.

Defending national champion Florida topped the rankings, racking up 439 points and 13 first-place votes. Arizona, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Texas rounded out the top five.

Additionally, UNLV's Ryan Moore was named to Golf World's 50 College Players to Watch list. A newcomer from Puyallup, Wash., Moore was one of only three freshmen given the nod from Golf World.

Golf World was not the only major publication to acknowledge the Rebels. Golfweek ranked UNLV 24th on its preseason list.

UNLV opens its 2001-02 season next week at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of New Mexico, Sept. 21-22.
