Women's Soccer Hands Southern Utah 3-0 Shutout

Sept. 17, 2001

CEDAR CITY, Utah - UNLV women's soccer midfielder Melicia Wright collected her first career goal as a Rebel in a 3-0 shutout of Southern Utah Monday night in Cedar City, Utah.

Wright, a junior transfer from Kingston, Jamaica, scored the game-winning goal 16 minutes into the game after taking her own rebounded shot off the post from 10-yards out. She helped the Rebels improve their season record to 2-1-2, while the first-year Thunderbirds dropped to 0-5.

Junior Cristyn Enea, the team's current leader in scoring with seven points, added another two to her tally by executing a centering pass from senior Janae Sims in the 51st minute. Sophomore Rachael Buscovich insured the shutout victory for UNLV with an unassisted score at the 79:37 minute mark.

UNLV outshot Southern Utah 18-7, with freshman goalkeeper Desiree Kelly earning her first collegiate win with one save in net.

The Rebels will next host No. 13 nationally-ranked California at Peter Johann Memorial Field as part of a tripleheader with the men's soccer team's UNLV/FILA Rebel Classic tournament on Friday, Sept. 21. Game time for the Cal-UNLV match is set for 8 p.m.
