Men's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision to Western Kentucky

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to Western Kentucky Friday night in the first day of the UNLV/FILA Rebel Classic held at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.

The Hilltoppers' Andy Fertick started things off by taking advantage of a loose ball in-front of the goal to put the game at 1-0 in the first half. Teammates Brandon Thompson and Brad Benz would follow up in the second period with two unassisted goals to earn the shutout.

Senior forward Jason Melendez had the best chance for a Rebel goal late in the game, but was called offsides. UNLV outshot WKU 9-7, but could not find a score. The Rebels go to 3-2, while the Hilltoppers keep their undefeated record intact at 4-0 for the season.

UNLV continues tournament action on Sunday, Sept. 23, as the Rebels meet defending 2000 NCAA Champions, UConn at noon. They will be followed by Fresno State and Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. All games played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
