LAS VEGAS - Aware of current security concerns relating to the recent attacks on the United States, management officials of the Thomas & Mack Center, Sam Boyd Stadium and Cox Pavilion announced security measures that will be enforced for upcoming events, starting with this week's game vs. BYU.
"We are in the business of providing entertainment for our university community and guests. We want people to know that we are thinking about their safety when they're in our buildings," said Daren Libonati, the venues' director.
Fans attending the UNLV vs. BYU game on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Sam Boyd Stadium should be aware of the following:
Everyone entering the venue will be subject to searches, conducted by security personnel using metal detecting wands.
No weapons of any type, including guns, knives, pepper-spray or chains will be allowed inside the venue.
No large bags will be allowed into the venue.
All purses or other bags will be searched. A separate line will be formed for those fans who are not carrying any bags.
There will be a no re-entry policy for these events. Fans who leave the venue will not be allowed back inside.
No vehicles will be allowed within 100 feet of the venue. Any vehicles that are left unattended in this area will be removed.
Fans attending the football game should also be aware that no access to the stadium will be available until 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. At that time, the stadium will open one pedestrian gate on the south side offering access to the ticket office. Fans will be required to leave the stadium once they have picked up their tickets. Also, the parking lots will not be accessible until noon. Fans should enter through Gates 1, 2, 4, 8, 10 and 12.
Other precautions, relating to securing the venues prior to any event and identifying those who enter prior to an event have been outlined. Additionally, fans can expect to see an increased police presence.
"We have a good plan in place to secure the venues and make sure that everyone who is there is supposed to be there. Our security will be tighter, but I know our fans will understand and appreciate our efforts," Libonati said.
