LAS VEGAS - Less than 4,500 tickets remain for Saturday's 4 p.m. UNLV football game vs. 20th-ranked Brigham Young at Sam Boyd Stadium, the school announced Wednesday.
"We expect one of the biggest crowds in history to help the Rebels kick off Mountain West Conference play," Associate Athletics Director for Sports Marketing Terry Cottle said. "If we do sell out, then we'll move on to offering standing-room-only tickets for $17."
Sam Boyd, which has a football capacity of 36,800, has hosted only four crowds of more than 30,000 for a game involving UNLV: a school-record 40,091 vs. Wisconsin in 1996, 32,207 vs. Wisconsin in 1986, 31,406 vs. BYU in 1980, and most recently, 30,599 vs. BYU in 1999.
Remaining reserved tickets are available ($30 sideline & $17 end zone) by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by logging on to the websites www.unlvrebels.com or www.tickets.com. To charge by phone, call tickets.com at 1-888-464-2468. Prorated season tickets for the remaining four home games are still available by calling 895-UNLV. Prices are $80 sideline and $40 end zone.
As part of Military Appreciation Day, anyone with a valid military I.D. receives $2 off each of up to four full-price individual game tickets. The U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army both will have interactive displays located in the Rebel Experience, which opens at 1 p.m.
As part of the first UNLV home game since the national tragedies of Sept. 11, the school will feature a lineup of patriotic entertainment. Following a moment of silence to recognize those affected by the tragedies, Boy Scout Troop 565 will present the U.S. colors. Harrah's Hotel entertainer Clint Holmes will then perform the "Star-Spangled Banner" with both teams on the field.
Halftime will feature UNLV's and BYU's marching band combining to play a program that includes the songs "America the Beautiful", "God Bless America" and "Stars & Stripes."
The first 5,000 fans will receive pompoms courtesy of AT&T Wireless. Also, 3,000 commemorative UNLV football CD-ROMs will be handed out courtesy of Lotus Broadcasting and ESPN 920 AM.
